Once someone I know told me they were going shooting, some kind of wild fowl. Anyway, I asked to have a look at their gun, since I'd never seen one in the flesh. Although it was a pretty standard shotgun, I must admit I did find the mechanism of it quite interesting. But other than satisfying my curiosity, the whole thing left me rather ambivalent, I had no desire to go hunting or get a similar weapon myself.

I think there's a few special cases, for example pest control, where it makes sense to have guns. Generally though, the need in the US for making these things available to all does leave me baffled, but living in the UK it's not something I have cause to come to a conclusion on.
