SECO strat necks on ebay
« on: April 02, 2013, 07:13:55 PM »
Anyone used these and what are they like for cheap? I'm just after a basic neck for my old strat copy body to use as a single bridge pickup downtuned metal guitar! Just wondering what the general quality is like, I know it's not gonna be amazing but maybe ok for a cheap and cheerful guitar I'm not really gonna use loads?

 how very close minded of you. I should probably mention it's going on a really old "jim harley" brand body that I stripped years ago. I don't even know what the wood is, just fancy something that plays and sustains well enough that I can have it as a basic drop tuned guitar! The plan is also to get a pickup that colours the sound a lot as I don't think the body is a great bit of wood, probably end up with an EMG tbh!

Pretty cheap - for twice that (or about £100) you can get Mighty Mite Fender licensed necks on Ebay, I think - they have a better reputation.

I wonder about the fret dress on that Seco neck, based on the comments. Maybe a Squier neck might be a more reliable alternative?

Sounds like a good project though, it's always fun to knock together some kind of Fender.

Ahh I've been out of the guitar DIY "scene" for a while now and didn't even consider that it'd probably have a bad fret dress! Forgot how awful some cheap necks can be with sharp fret ends etc. I've found some Squiers for quite cheap that I'm watching now :) Really pleased with my Squier bass and I've played a load of squier guitars that I thought were as good as MIM equivalents..

This guitar will be fun I reckon, it's hopefully gonna be a single bridge humbucker/single volume metal machine. Stripped and oiled body (oooer) with rosewood neck, bwb pickguard and black tuners :)
