I originally bought the Holydiver because at my age, I'm very much a child of 80's Metal so tones like you get on the likes of Dio or Whitesnake albums tend to be what I gravitate towards. It does deliver that in spades but I also liked heavier stuff at the time like Motorhead and I equally like some more modern music like A7X so I tend to play 80's Metal songs with a lot more gain than was ever on the originals. The Holydiver does them all beautifully. As a band we also do more Classic Rock material and I can nail a song like 'Alright Now' with no trouble at all. It has a slightly more modern feel to it but it's still very good indeed. It's great at ZZ Top too :D That covers a range of distorted tones but when I'm relaxing at home I can happily noodle around to a Blues backing track and the Holydiver will do it very well. I'd say the lightest thing I play using the Holydiver is 'Long Train Running' by the Doobie Brothers and the heaviest songs I've played in the band using the Holydiver is the Metallica version of 'Whisky in the Jar' and the Children of Bodom version of 'Rebel Yell'. As you can see, it really is very versatile and it LOVES an overdrive pedal. It always sounds great to me with just the amp but shove an overdrive pedal in front of your amp and you discover a whole new dimension to the Holydiver.
