NGD - nothing fancy but...
« on: May 25, 2013, 09:05:01 PM »
Just got me a '91 LP Studio, didn't really need another guitar but a FOAF was selling it for a good price and I knew I shouldn't try it but I couldn't resist  :?

The little bugger sounds fine - I didn't expect that much from a Studio but it's as good as some Standards I played recently, not the greatest LP I've ever played but still a pretty good one, very lively, snappy attacks and a rich sustain  - and it plays fine too (for a LP at least ). The pups (490R & 498T) are decent but nothing special so I think I will put my SG's pups in it (Abomb bridge / Mule neck) and load the SG with the RRs from the Hofner Verythin (which I'll now have to sell, one in one out :?), so the Studio will become my main axe for heavier stuff and the SG will be restored to it's former glory

The bad news is that I will have to go thru the pain of swapping pups on the Verythin
Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)

Looks good, nothing wrong with a Studio!  Shame you think you have to sell your Hofner, though.

Except it doesn't have the Holy Binding

More seriously, I only knew the recent (<= 5 years) faded Studios and didn't like them, so this guitar is a bit of a (good) surprise.

Yes, I didn't use it much so far (except @home) but really like it - but well, I have to pay the bills and whatnots...  :?

I briefly had a 2007 Studio (so, much newer than yours) in Wine Red with gold hardware, I stupidly sold it when I was in a "selling mood", but it was really good - and a nice light weight too.

The first LP I played was a studio. Got a bit of a soft spot for them, I like the stripped down looks. Congrats :)

Very nice, glad you got yourself a good piece of gear here! :D
I don't know why, but all the Les Pauls I've seen so far have put me off by their look. As soon as the binding that you find on the LP Customs is absent, the neck kinda looks too small for me. Not saying I wouldn't play a good one if someone gave it to me (Gary Moores LP!), but I much prefer a nice looking Paula with a binding and the diamond inlay
