Other way around for me. The Punky edge to the first Maiden album made it a smooth transition from Punk to Metal so those years were dominated by bands from the NWOBHM but as the years went by I started to appreciate a wider range of music. Having said that, although I'll get lambasted for it on here, I'd have to say that there are some classic bands I've never been able to get into. I've never liked The Rolling Stones, I find Led Zeppelin largely forgettable and although I love Ozzy's solo work (especially earlier albums) I much prefer Dio singing for Sabbath than Ozzy.

I feel like an alcoholic finally admitting he has a problem!

Thx for coming out! I'm with you when it comes to the Stones, apart for some songs I like (Angie, Under my Thumb and a few others). Led Zep I dig, but some of the material isn't that ínteresting. I really like Ozzy in his early Sabbath-days. He made some songs tremendously spooky ( I remember listening Sabotage in the darkness to enhance that effect). Dio is technical the better vocalist and has a different sound and approach.

Ah, now Sabotage was the very first Sabbath album I listened to and perhaps as a result, I've always liked those songs. 'Symptom of the Universe remains one of my favourite songs by any band. What a riff! I always thought Sabbath with Ozzy were great until the day I heard 'Heaven and Hell'. That was just on a different level altogether and perhaps the fact that it was released in 1980, just when I was getting into Metal music was a factor in that perception. Still, that was fine because the period 1980-1988 was a golden era for Ozzy as a solo artist.

With The Rolling Stones, I'm afraid 'Jumping Jack Flash is the only one that leaps to mind that I like. With Led Zeppelin I like 'Whole Lotta Love', 'Battle of Evermore' and 'Stairway to Heaven' but I wouldn't listen to anything else.
