I have an amp and 2 pedals made by Toe-Knee, he makes really good stuff!

I'd give his volume box a go 1st.

If you want to try any ZVex or other boosts you're welcome to try any of mine. We both live locally to each other so not a problem.
Selling lots of gear, enquire within!......

Im definitely going to try the volume box first sounds uncluttered and simple.  It should be simple as all I need is a boost in volume and nothing else so it fits the bill perfectly.

Thanks for the offer mate ill let you know how I get on.

You can buy a passive 'solo booster' like Tony described on eBay for maybe £25.00, its a great way of getting two different levels.

As suggested before two ways to go, look at a passive volume switch or volume only boost pedal.

In the series effects loop of my Cornford I use a DIY clone of the MXR Micro amp. Alternatively there is also the Carl Martin Hydra. Too my ears both these pedals are pretty transparent and just lift the volume.
