My home recording 'reamp station'
« on: July 21, 2013, 01:10:08 PM »
All of the DI guitar and bass tracks for my next recording project are now complete and I've set up the following 'reamp station' so I can switch between amps and effects as easy and quick as possible.

The setup is pretty simple:

I have an iso cab with 3 speaker choices (Emi Wizard, Emi Swamp Thang and Weber 12A125) and several microphone choices. The one common microphone to all tracks will be a Cascade Fat Head II; it will then be blended with a 2nd mic depending on application.

From the iso cab, I run into the SSL channel strip.

From the SSL, and DAW, all further routing is done through a patch bay, aside from the Radial RMP Reamp box, which is fed directly from one of the outputs on the DAW. This enables me to effectively mult the mic'd signal and add effects to one whilst keeping the other uneffected. (Example: I can use the Space Echo on one track and keep the other dry and then blend in the effected track to taste or use one or the other later.)

There are 2 amps not pictured above -- a VOX LNT and Mesa Dual Rec.

SIGNAL CHAIN is:
DAW output > Reamp > Guitar Amp > iso cab > SSL channel strip > patch bay > DAW

I also have the patch bay set up to run any track direct out as a line level signal, for reamping synth tracks.

That is a very clever system!

Well done, I wish I had something similar in my studio

I have the same Radial RMP box, it's a great piece of gear for the money isn't it? looks like a pro setup you have there, I hope to hear some recordings when they're finished.

Thanks; yes I love the RMP, though I've never attempted to do an album ONLY using reamped guitar tracks. I'm happy with the way it's all turning out thus far!

Nice looking rig there Ben. And most importantly, great sounding clips!

Looking forward to hearing more in due course :)
