Nailbombs handling punk?
« on: March 06, 2006, 02:57:26 PM »
Hi, im pretty sure on the choice of pickups im after, fitting my cort mgm1 with some nailbombs, but all of you guys who use them seem to play metal, whereas i play mostly punk such as new found glory millencolin the offspring, etc etc, but i do occassionaly go into heavier stuff like metallica, so im just wondering how the nailbombs are for playing a variety of songs and not just crazy metal stuff.

I can't remember the name of that band but there's a ska punk band that uses Nailbombs in SG's. Sounds very cool.

Nailbombs would do that perfectly. The pickups used for the metal clips on this site just have more gain, so turning the gain down would give a punk tone too.

good stuff, been emailing Tim n he has been really helpful. I only have one problem though, my guitar will be amazing with the new pickups, no doubt about that, however, i am only using a small marshall amp at the moment and using the boss - me 50 as an effects unit, im just praying that once i get the new pickups, im not disappointed purely because my amp cant handle the power of the pickups to give there true sound. Any advice of a better amp i could get for around 200 quid?

a laney LC15 or VC15 depending on your tastes. old-skool or nu-skool. don't be put off by the low 15W rating - remember a 10W valve amp is half as loud as a 100W valve amp

Possibly a Laney LC15- not a high gain amp but you ought to be able to get a decent punk tone. 15watts of valve amp will kick it out.
