A-Bomb and Cap Replacement
« on: August 08, 2013, 02:51:51 PM »
Greetings everyone! New user.

Pulling the trigger on a battle worn black A-Bomb for my PRS 2012 Black Gold finish Custom 24 guitar w/ mahog body, 10 top maple cap, mahog neck, rosewood board to replace the 59/09's it came with. Im going for Opeth/Cradle of Filth/Porcupine tree tones.

I have a few questions.

53m spacing? I measured and its 51 1/2'ish. Threads I have read appear to suggest Tim pointing customers to the 53.

Short or long legs?

Do I really need to pay 18$ and replace caps? How badly will the stock PRS caps affect the tone Im expecting to get out of this pickup.

Here is a wiring diagram with caps.

Thanks in advance team BKP!

Just an update.

Pickup received. I havent put it in my PRS CU24 yet... Instead I replaced the duncan distortion that I put in my PRS SE Fred Akesson with it. I ordered a cap as well and installed.

Honestly... I cant hear the difference between these two pickups. Using Adam monitors and a kemper profiling amp.. Ive recorded a clip with the Ddistortion that I will post soon, along side the BKPs. Ive fiddled with pickup height among other things.. These pickups sound really close.

The Nailbomb is Alnico the distortion ceramic.. which was the biggest surprise.
