Pickup suggestion for a Charvel 750 XL
« on: August 19, 2013, 02:27:07 PM »
I need some pickup suggestion for this kind of guitar

http://audiozone.dk/index-filer/charvel-750xl-guitar.htm

mine has a fixed bridge and I´m mainly playing Hardrock / Metal and sometimes Blues.
I´m thinking about a Holydiver for bridge and a Black Dog in the neck position.

BKP: Abraxas - Les Paul
Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul
Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22
Emerald - Les Paul

I thought it would be a good choice for hotter blues stuff.

Bd with looser bass in the neck compared to hd bridge might be a bit muddier.  Mule or abraxas in the neck would be my choice.

Holy Diver - Charvel

Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22

What amp you're playing and what is the natural voice of the Charvel? What kind of sound you're after? What is more important, metal or the bluesy stuff? Metal and blues could be done with several BKP's.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I´m playing through Scuffham S-Gear software modeller.Metal/Hardrock is more important than Blues. The Charvel sounds a little more brighter than a Les Paul.I´m playing mostly rhythm stuff with lots of palm mutes.

Then I think you're on the right track with the Diver. For the neck I would look at the Cold Sweat and the VHII. Both will do nice cleans, but also fluid solotones.

I might be tempted with a Miracle Man /Cold Sweat combo if you like a tighter metal/rocksound.
Cold sweat will work great in the neck

If the guitar is acoustically bright then I suggest the VHII neck. It's great for fattening up brighter guitars and also guitars with 24 fret necks. I just replaced the Cold Sweat neck in my PRS Custom (and that has been there for years) with a VHII and it really shines in that guitar.

In earlier posts I commented that I did not like the HD bridge / VHII neck combo as much in the Single Cut. But in the Custom they work great together.

Cheers Stephan
