Cute!  :)

(Blimey, doesn't time fly!)

I predict she'll build her first guitar before I complete any of my "under the bed" Fender/Warmoth projects.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

i recently brewed a beer i was going to call Tempus Fugit because it had a large amount of fresh thyme in the brew.  But yes, you
are the second to see this pic and say "time flies"

also.  the acoustic books are out for a reason.   just realised i have 5 books on acoustic guitar construction and just 1 on electrics yet i still have not done much acoustic stuff.  this will be rectified soon

5 acoustic books?  That should throw up some interesting ideas for guitars.  Funny that I've been thinking acoustics too  :harp:

7 if you count the ukulele and archtop books

Irvine Sloan - Steel String Guitar Construction (the one Violet is reading)
Very old school, all done with handtools.  A great book for its age.  Doesn't give you all the info

Cupiano & Natelson - Guitar Making: Tradition and Technology
I don't like this one at all.  Its very detailed right down to step by step instructions for each task.  its a good reference book but not a good read

Jonathan Kinkead - Build Your Own Acoustic Guitar
This has the best pictures by far.  its a really vibrant book and really a good update on the Sloan one

Melvyn Hisc--k - Make Your Own Acoustic Guitar
This combines the best of all of them.  good colour photography, enough info to get you going and  easy to read

Jim Williams - A Guitar Makers Manual
This is another old school one and I don't like it at all.

When I saw the thread title I thought Wez was going to be the next Alan Sugar driving around in his Rolls Royce Phantom

Very cute pic :D

There's a 19/20 year-old picture like that of my two somewhere. Except they had slightly more enquiring minds - they were showing each other how the books themselves had been constructed... they didn't quite have the skills to put them back together, though (especially the chewed pages)

It looks like Violet's going to be helping with the neck joint, or was she just getting ready to give you some advice on it?  Did you start the new job yet (he asks eagerly :) )

I start the new job in 2 weeks.

Violet is critiquing the Sloan neck join.   he recommends a dowelled mortice and tenon join.   seems to be a bit complex for not much gain over the standard mortice and tenon.

we both think this makes a lot more sense and are discussing how best to achieve something similar by hand

Yep

i think the idea of a hand done adjustable neck has promise:

I am stopping short of posting cantilevered necks with sloping fretboards
