JMP1 channel switching with a Boss GT-5
« on: March 08, 2006, 11:01:33 AM »
As the title says, has anyone tried this?

I'd like to use my GT-5 FX unit, and get it to change the JMP1's channel when I select a patch.  Not sure if it's even possible though (the GT-5 and JMP1 are MIDI capable is all I know).

Cheers

Should be possible.....might have to get a midi prog for your comp to chnage the midi control messages from your gt5.

or what message controls what on your jmp1
....not tried it but done lots with a fcb1010, a podxt and a few others..is it live play or linked through comp

It's for live.

Actually a miracle has occured and I've actually found the manual for my GT-5.  I'll have to see if that gives me any clues.

Many years ago I had a JMP1 and did the same thing with a Peavey Profex....

You need to check out the section on Midi mapping in the JMP1 manual and midi program change in the GT5 manual.

Everytime you select a patch on the GT5 it should send a midi program change message. When the JMP1 gets this signal the MIDI mapping function allows any of the 128  possible midi program numbers to be assigned to any of the JMP1s patches. So if you just need clean and dirty on the JMP1, say program numbers 1 and 2, you need to map the program numbers from the GT5 to either patch 1 or 2 on the JMP1.

What should happen is if patch 23 on the GT5 needs a clean sound, the MIDI map should send program change 23 to patch 1 for clean - if that makes sense!

It's not as bad as it sounds!

Well, that was easier than expected.  Working a treat.  :)

Unfortunately now I have G.A.S. again, as I'd forgotten how noisy the GT-5 is.

I'm glad it is that easy, would I be able to use this with my pod xt to control my pod 2.3, so i can use the delays to build loops and stuff? I'm sure it must be possible everything is midi controllable it might take a bit of working out though... (sorry for hijacking the thread)

It would be for live.

Am i right in thinking that the podxt should be able to send patch change infor to the pod 2.3?
