Wondering...
« on: December 08, 2013, 06:38:00 PM »
Hello everybody. I'm the proud owner of an Elipse 2, actually powered by two emg's, two volume pots and one tone pot. I was just wondering if I buy a set of BareKnuckle Warpig, do it will be delivered with pots and all the stuff needed ? If no, may you help me on wich pots I have to buy, please ? Many thanks for reading.

no it will not come with pots. you could buy bkp pots from their store. like the 550ks. capacitors wouldnt hurt either. but you probably have 500k pots already in that guitar

Thanks for your answer !  :D so according to you, I may not have to change my pots ? In fact they don't look at the plug and play pots of EMG, they look like standard soldered pots. I came on the BKP store, but I don't see the difference between volume and tone's one..

Many thanks for your help ! I'll note it. If I can just question you again, if I buy the 245Ģ set of warpig, it will come with the two humbuckers, right ? I know my question are a bit stupid but I just want to be sure of everything !

if you buy a SET then yes, you're getting a bridge and a neck pickup. and for that price, its definitely for both. and the others are right. you'll definitely want to change your pots to 550k. you just have to find out if your guitar uses regular length pots or the extra long ones like "metale" mentioned. and the capacitors will help too if you use your tone knobs a bit.

the Jensen BKP 0.022μfd capacitor is for the bridge pickup and the Jensen BKP 0.015μfd capacitor is for the neck pickup typically. but thats in a 2 tone knob situation. since your guitar only has 3 knobs, i assume 1 is for tone and 2 are for volume? then i would go with the .022 capacitor personally.

also, make sure you get the right size. Some guitars (I suspect your ESP as well) have a M8 size hole for the pots. CTS (or US size) pots will not fit in that case.

I had this issue with my Epiphone.  I just enlarged the holes a bit using a sanding drum, although there is a danger of cracking the paint that I was not very aware of at the time.  Other people use a router bit

You need metric pots on that guitar - no CTS as others have mentioned. I'd go for small ones (mini pots), the saved space is easier to work with IMO.

I've also in the past exchanged the output jack for a normal mono one, though that's up to you. You'll need the tone capacitors as well, as mentioned.
Finally, you will need some extra wire to ground all pots together and don't forget to solder the bridge cable to the ground as well - in the ESPs this is a spare cable in the control cavity. There will also be some extra ground wires from the coating of the cavities.

If this all sounds quite intimidating - it does take a bit of skill and experience in soldering - I definitely think you should take it to a tech. In fact the labour associated with it has kept the EMGs in my current Eclipse for such a long time - it's just such a hassle to change it all.

Easier replacements would be the various active pickups that are now around and that offer more flexible tonal options over the old standard EMGs - they should be easy connector ones.

Thank you everybody, your answers helped me well. When I will buy'em, I think I will make it done by a tech, I'm not afraid of soldering or whatever, cause I like it, but the tech offers me the warranty of a well-done job.

For the alternative active pickups with the same plug than EMG, I eard about'em but I'm not very interested.. I really want to change mine for passive ones.. On an ENGL Powerball, I thought the Warpig set could sound very great..

(I'm sorry for all the grammatical mistakes I may done, I'm a 17 years old french boy and thatīs quite hard for me ! )
