The guy who taught me charged £20 and I did progress a fair bit until I reached a plateau. I ended up stopping as £80 a month was stopping me from going out for a beer. I do regret stopping taking lessons as I could do with some help at the moment, but I'm not sure whether he could show me what I wanted to learn now (even though he is an awesome player).

I had lessons with John Mizarolli a year ago. He charged me around £420 for 16 hours one to one but i got more than that in the end. It was very challenging and I found it hard work but it was well worth it. He gave me these legato exercises using major scales (3 notes per string) which I've never really done before. I'm sort of 3/4's there with that even after a year but It's that last fine tuning bit of the technique that isn't quite there yet. After I'd cracked that he said come back and see me but don't be surprised if it takes you 2 years!

He is an incredible player as I've said before in here.

I did try £20 an hour then £15 but Devon isn't really what you would call a wealthy area and I would rather have three students learning guitar paying a tenner then 0 students paying me 0.
For the first lesson with this kid he came in with a really messed up way of fingering chords and he only knew E and D. I helped him with his form and got him changing between E,D and G, explained to him about the cycle of notes and string names etc etc. I want the people I teach to take on board some of the theory as I think that really is overlooked in some lessons, and I am trying to get some sort of relationship going with the school to compliment what they are learning there. And at the end of the day it is all good experiance as I am doing a degree in music with the aim to be a Teacher/Tutor. (Unless Devon Guitar School takes off!)

If there was anyone near me who could play ANYTHING like that, I'd be going to learn off him in an instant!

There are basically no good teachers where I come from, my teacher's picking style (And now I think of it, general PLAYING) is total slop, and he knows shite all about theory. He says modes are "basically just pentatonic scales with a few extra notes added on"...

NO! WRONG!

No wonder all the little kids these days are total cr@p! I only really learnt what I know on the guitar from the internet, and from watching good guitarists play and trying to copy.

Yet another downfall of living in a small town :x

But yeah, I pay £20 for my lessons although I think he asked for less (my dad's used to paying £50 for piano lessons, so he thought 16 was too little...). They're with a guy called Nick Michaelson here in North London, he's guitar in a band called Senser, and a thoroughly nice guy.

He knows his theory, which I find damn confusing for the most part.

And best of all - He has BKPs (although I think he got them by accident since they came in a Black Machine he bought.... The telecaster in the gallery on the website with the fully scalloped neck :p).

i used to pay £20 an hour.
The other day i gave a guitar lesson to my friend and she gave me £10 for 3 hours or how ever long she was over for. i was flattered, lol

A mate of mine charges £20 per hour for lessons IIRC. He's a GIT graduate and pro guitarist (does session work, lessons and is also "Richie" in Bon Jovi tribute band Bon Jovie).
