I recently purchased a Gibson Voodoo V off ebay, however the seller hasn't responded to any of my emails. Either he is just really slow at posting out and doesn't check his ebay often, or he doesn't like the fact I won the auction at his start price so is refusing to send it out.
I am starting to think the latter is the case, I will give him until new year to respond as I have been after this guitar for several years now and want to remain hopeful.
If the deal falls through and I get my money back I still want a V. Ideally I would like a Gibson.
I suppose my question is are there any particular models between £700 - £1000 that people could recommend? I have been reading up on some models, but the reviews seem to be either written by kids who think every Gibson product is 'totally amazing...', or by magazines (who's reviews don't hold a lot of value to me)

To be fair to him it has only been a week, its just that he was responding to my questions about the guitar fine when the auction was active. As soon as it sold I have heard nothing from him, and the guitar isn't marked as dispatched. I have emailed him three times since then with no luck. I guess I am getting nervous as its a lot of money to send to someone without hearing anything back from them.

A week is a long time.  I would start talking to paypal ... see how quickly he responds then ... I've been stiffed on something before by a seller like this, and luckily did something early enough that I got my money back ... some people are selling stuff they simply don't have ... a week is very suspicious.

I'd not rule out trying to snag an Edwards V also. Cleggy's (formerly Philly Q's I believe) is rather brilliant.

Ooooo just received an email from him saying that he has been seriously ill this week, not only that but he has seriously injured his hand so he can't even put new strings on it for me, so he will send some out with the guitar. He said he fully understands if I leave him negative feedback. Feel a bit of a tw@t now  :oops:
But it looks like I will be getting my Voodoo V   :D

The Edwards look like very good quality, I will keep an eye out for one at a decent price. I have always liked Vs but I'm a little concerned I'm too much of a short arse to pull one off  :lol:

Its 100% but he hasn't had many transactions. I'm not going to ruin his feedback, at the end of the day sh!t happens...

Yeah, I've come to the conclusion I'm too much of a shortarse for Vs.  :lol:

I love the look and that set-neck mahogany (or korina) sound, though.  The Voodoo is swamp ash, if I remember right?  Always wondered how they would sound.

Generally in that price range you are looking at the worn/faded models which are decent enough guitars, but rarely spectacular.

Yep swap ash. There aren't too many reviews on the V, but I reckon it might suffer from the same harsh trebley tone that everyone seems to state about the LP and SG, I shall see.

I couldn't have afforded a higher bid so I wasn't expecting to win it at all. I suppose it was too close to christmas for people to consider spending that much money.

Are you limiting it to new guitars? I would prefer to buy second hand to be honest, get a lot more for my money.

The 500t/496r are spikey pickups anyway, probably the swamp ash brings that out even more. Maybe a set of miracle men would be cool.

You can get those fadeds for less than 500 second hand, but I don't think the timbers used are always the best. No problem for the price though!

But warm congratulations on the Voodoo. I was there considering a snipe but got cold feet. I think Christmas probably did help keep the price down. You got a fine bargain!

Thinking about it, I did have a Washburn with a swamp ash body and a glued-in (maple) neck.  That was quite trebley and bassy, not as warm and midrangey as mahogany.

There may be a good reason for swamp ash being more common in bolt-ons than set-necks.

You can compare a faded Gibson V to an Edward. The gibson has proper nitro finish, which I like. The Edwards has better timbers. Pickups you can say are roughly equal maybe - Gibson vs Duncan.

The feel is different though between the Gibson and the Edwards. The necks are radically different shapes. I like both, but you may have other preferences.

My favourite Vs for feel are the rear routed 80s models. But they are all good in their own way  :D
