Need advise on PAF for Gibson Les paul Custom Black Beauty
« on: January 27, 2014, 03:10:57 PM »
Hello !
I have got a Les paul Custom Black Beauty , and i want to buy a Paf HB set from Bareknuckles , therefore i would apreciate some advice in choosing .
I am Inclined for one of the Vintage Category : Stormy Monday , Pg Blues , The Mule or Riff Raff .

the tones i like more latelly are JOE BONAMASSA , and the kind of style i play is Blues / Rock .

I am aware that my Gibson Les Paul Custom black Beauty has a different caracter from other gibsons, i think they are more heavy on bass frequencies , at least when i played mine compared with a Standard, mine had more body . So i would like some tips from whom may know good my kind of gibson and help me choose which HB set would fit me better .

big thanks in advance .

The mule is the PAF, riff raff if its darker. You want something hotter, the Emerald fits the bill.
BKP: Abraxas - Les Paul
Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul
Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22
Emerald - Les Paul
Warpig - Caparison Horus

Im still new here but been reading and studying the BKP's line for quite awhile now. Id say the Mule or possibly the Black Dog tho I have no experience with either. Many here have also mentioned replacing the internal wiring, caps and pots with the upgraded BKP's offerings. Email Tim and Im sure many of the forum members here can offer far better details.

Enjoy  :D

As far as I know, Joe Bonamassa does not use high output humbuckers, which is no surprise as he used to play single coil guitars. So the vintage category is certainly the one to look into. I would probably go with the Mules.

Cheers Stephan

I have Mules in an all mahogany Saint Blues and they're perfect for Bonamassa-tones, but can do way more. Actually you can't go wrong with Mules in a Les Paul.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Stormy Mondays for a LP Custom imo to balance out the brighter/snappier tone Customs have.

You can't go wrong with Mules in a LP (tm)

Seriously : you can't go wrong with Mules in a LP so that's your safest bet. If you think (from sounclips and whatnot) SM or PG could work better for you, start with this and eventually keep the Mules as a fallback (you've read about the 14 days return policy didn't you ?)
Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)
