pickup for korina/ebony V

Hey guys...Just need help...I just got new guitar Dean Custom Korina V (body/neck-korina,fretboard-ebony)...It came with dean zebra pickups which I changed for active emg 81/85 set...In short I use the same active set in another (mahogany body,maple/rosewood neck) Dean V with pleasant result but in that korina/ebony wood combo they sound lot darker (lot less center mids) with woolly lows and shrill and honky uppers mids and highs (caused by brightness of ebony?)...Also I tried 85 in bridge with better result but when I play thrashy palm mute riffs that honky annoying squeal in high frequencies which sounds like single coil is still there...I think it´s time go back for passive...Sooo...Need tight pickup with good midrange and ability to tame these unvanted freq´s which will bring some balance to overall tone...Thanks for any input or advice...Cheers

Thanx man...I already did it  ...I took out MM of my Viper and now sits in Dean...I played it just through amplitube in my laptop but it sounds better...It´s bright but in good way...I´m going to try it through tube amp on full volume tomorrow so I let you know...Cheers

It sounds bit better but there is still gap between lows and highs...It looks like I need less bass and highs and more center mids...What about aftermath or juggernaut?

I ´m not sure about nailbomb mate...I had him twice and I didn ´t like it in dark wood...I need more modern more open sound...

Korina bodied guitars work differently to mahogany ones, and can suffer with the wooly bass and honky upper mids that you describe.
Not altogether surprised by the results you had with the EMGs and I would wonder if Korina was a great choice for metal/thrash

Works very well with lower output PAF types like mules, stormy monday, VH2
Higher output pickups will need to be chosen carefully to compliment what the wood does sonically.

Can't say I have tried too many to offer constructive advice on the higher output choices in Korina

It´s exactly as you say...I know lower output pickups just do make wonders and rock or blues players will enjoy benefits of that combination..I´m just shredder and I play straight to amp with no effets so there is my limitation...It´s nice guitar and I just want to give her chance...

I have the A-bomb in a Epiphone Explorer which has the yellow korina wood - not sure if it is the exact same type as yours - and a rosewood board and I didn't like Warpigs in it (too dark, and maybe a bit 'wooly' in the bottom end, not sure what that means) so I tried out an A-bomb that I didn't like in my SG and it worked really well.  If you have one laying around it's worth a try.  Otherwise maybe try the VH2

Never played the Aftermath or Juggernaut but both are described to have a lot of midrange and should therefore work well.

The Alnico Nailbomb could work equally well but in a dark sounding guitar it will still sound dark.

I had a similar case with my alder strat which happens to be a dark one. Holydiver was good but a bit too dark. Miracle Man was better but still a bit too dark. I have a Black Dog in there now which made the guitar a lot brighter so that could be an option, too.

I would look at the Rebel Yell too. It can do metal, has the mids and not too much bass. Otherwise something like the (bonedry) Aftermath.

Think it's the middier pickups you are asking for. HD, RY, A-Bomb have the extra mids.

But the Painkiller has masses of mids if that is what you want. Listen to the Judas Priest 'Painkiller' track, although the actual pickup is not quite as middy, but still way out in that department with other BKP.

thanx guys for your opinions...I found that annoying "bird voices" when you hit string is propably hardware problem...epicenter of this phenomenon is located between bridge and brass plate (arrow shape) which is screwed to body when strings go through body...so I will try to eliminate this issue...also I ordered graphtech sadles which supose to do tame some high end presence...cheers
