Sam
you need to define an exact budget first then go from there.
To be honest, 200 quid is NOT gonna get ya a "pro" axe but if you also define what you truly want (specifically) what type of fingerboard, pup arrangement, trem, shape. I am sure we will all help to get you some good idea's/examples that you can afford.

BTW, Carvin is not too well known outside the US, also they ONLY sell direct (first instance) which makes em darn cheap for what they are (hand built, neck-thru etc.)

!!! those carvins really are nice....

and so's that 7 string- what model is that? love the white.....

i know wot u mean nick, really id like a mahogany body- i find my mahogany MM sings so much more than other axes ive played with other woods....

trem dont really care as long as it stays in tune reasonably well and can make stupid noises..... floyd rose type ideally not the vintage type ones.

at least 1 h/b whether it be on its own or with a s/c or whatever dont mind...

rosewood fingerboard (ebony ideally but that would be a bonus)

natural finishes are cool or block colours- im liking quilt/flame tops less and less lately....

thats bout it really....

Well it's a Ibanez universe neck with a custom alder body made by Feline guitars. It has stupid amounts of sustain

well that cost me £999 because Jonathan was doing a special offer on some guitars for sale on his site. Although it wasn't custom built for me, i couldn't ask for a better 7 string.

The white Carvin on ebay looks bloody amazing. I really like it.

I like steves first guitar as well (the red/orangey one), such a nice colour.

on the cheap, you really want to watch out for cr@p trems.

here's my list of the good ones, with some more info (nicked from UG, lol- don't worry, i wrote it, i'm not plagiarising anyone, lol):

"Cheap double locking trems are more bother than they’re worth. They’re made of cr@p soft metal, they won’t hold tune and they won‘t sustain as well. You MAY get lucky, but it’s not worth the risk. Either fork out for a good trem (Original Floyd Rose, Floyd Rose Pro, Floyd Rose Speedloader, Schaller, Gotoh, Kahler or Ibanez Edge (NOT Edge III), Ibanez Lo-Pro Edge, Ibanez Edge Pro (NOT Edge Pro II), or Ibanez ZR, and most expensive guitar brands’ own brand of trem (e.g. Vigier) - if it’s not one of these, assume it’s cr@p, unless proven otherwise), or go with a hardtail or non-locking trem. Also, a lot of the decent trems are a different size to the cr@p ones (even the studs can be a different size, if the whole trem is the same size) so it’s frequently not just a matter of buying a better trem when your cr@p one breaks. Most guitar companies are incredibly scabby- they’re TRYING to make it hard to upgrade, so you have to buy a whole new guitar from them."

so yeah, that's about the best advice i can give.

problem is, at money Sam is talking about a "good" trem can almost fetch that on it's own.
This is all GREAT if spending BIG bucks, but on a budget, sometimes sacrifices just have to be made.
