It's not that hard to becomes a better player, practice rhythms with a metronome and start slowly, paying attention to the quality of the sound you are getting.
I put in a vote for Juggerset. I LOVE these pickups, they're tight, responsive, percussive, great for rhythm, great for leads, amazing for cleans. They're great for a versatile guitarist who does many things but they don't 'drop' the ball on any one task either.
RE: 'Hollow mids'
They have a certain tonality to them which I describe as 'modern' which is audible in all the clips I have heard. They are not scooped but they do have a certain 'hollow' sound to them when distorted. But, the super thick and aggressive distortion they produce is only possible with an abundance of midrange. It's the pickup voicing that the user trysth is reacting to. Of course, some of that is due to amp, recording technique, and playing style. My experience has been that the tone 'in the room' is quite different but recorded, I get a somewhat similar result to what others have gotten.
