Best Pickup for 8 string Basswood
« on: August 15, 2014, 10:26:33 AM »
Hello! I'm gonna pick up an 8 string with a basswood body, and was wondering what the best pickup would be. Musical styles would be Deftones, Limp Bizkit, heavy rock and metal down tuned half a step. So essentially looking to ensure clarity on the fat low string. Ps what actually is the low string tuned to?

Thanks!

Not tried any of the 8-string pickups yet, but Blackhawks seem to sound good in most anything, and Juggernauts were designed with basswood in mind.

Standard tuning for an 8-string is (low to high) F#-B-E-A-D-G-b-e
LTD M-207: Painkiller bridge, Painkiller neck

Juggs sound very modern but they're really quite spectacular nonetheless.  They'll do some great hard rock / nu-metal type tones but it's a refined sort of a voice.  Like a bodybuilder in a suit.
