I finally got to try the Strat with the band last night, and wow, does it sound great. The pickups are clear and articulate, cleaning up when strummed lightly and adding bite as you hit it harder. With a Soul Food and a Møller overdrive in front of  my amp, it did some very cool crunch - the Soul Food is used as a clean/fat boost and the Møller gives a little sparkle when biting in to the strings. I think I might need a different drive pedal to get real thick, saturated distortion, like an Emma ReezaFRATzitz II. The Big Muff  is forever getting lost in the mix.å

You're talking Fat 50's here, I presume. I can highly recommend the Emma as I use one for many years. It's provides an very amplike tone with a lot of touchsensitivity when your don't turn up the gain to 3.00 o'clock, but you will never get there because the Reeza has a huge amount of gain. It sounds very good with the gain around 11.00 o'clock. I also use a Brunetti Mercury Box 2, which turns your clean channel into a three channelamp. The Brunetti is a little less vintage sounding, but produces a thick, yet tight rocksound and with the solochannel you can get fluid Santana-esque tones or biting (use the mid-knob) all balls out leadtones. These two fellows really beef up strats and tele's in a most pleasant way.

I would look at a 63 veneer board set for what you are looking for.  I have all the BK Strat sets other than Sinners, and these are a great set.  My other favourites are the Sultans and Apaches, but for what you are mentioning, the Veneer boards shold suit.
So many pickups, so little time

Good to hear! I told you those Fat 50s were great! Enjoy and if you EVER upgrade, go Bare Knuckle!
