diving back into the 7 string ring. now i need a pickup.
« on: December 20, 2014, 12:46:16 AM »
alright. heres the deal. looking at a strat style guitar right now. not dead set on specs but probably bolt on maple/rosewood neck. likely alder wood. 25.5" scale. either way thats not the point. there are 3 main pickups i've been wanting to try for a long time. warpig, blackhawk, aftermath. and i dont really know which one i should go for.  is there anyone that could give me a good insight on these? its definitely going to be doing heavier modern styles.

This should show you the characteristics between the Blackhawk and Aftermath:

This should sow you them between the Warpig and Aftermath:

Hope that helps :)

i'm definitely thinking the warpig. i've been considering putting one in a strat for a long time. not sure if the AM or the BH would really sit well in this guitar so i think this is the way to go.

I love the warpigs and have two of them in two different guitars. The black hawks are great as well but can be a bit choosey. I have them in my parker and my mcnaught as of now and they sound awesome. Much better in my mahogany parker. Not sure if I will keep them in my McNaught. Will probably throw a Juggernaut or Ceramic Warpig in. The aftermaths are perfect for down tuning and 7 strings. I think they sound best in 7 string or drop C tuning for 6 string. Im stuck on doing a 6 or 7 string build now and Im kinda torn between the Aftermath or Juggernaut. Never messed with the juggernauts much.
Hope this helps.

that sort of confirmed my suspicions so thank you! i've been meaning to try the warpigs for so long because when it comes to my metal side, i feel like it really would capture the sound i'd go for especially for the type of guitar its going in. i'd love to try the other 2 but the BH seems like you said, to be really picky depending on the guitar its in. i feel like it would need a super strat sort of guitar with a darker sort of tone wood. like a mahogany. and the aftermath was what brought me to BK in the first place but i feel like its a little one sided. i think the warpig has a bit more use when it comes to the styles i play

Warpig has crushing lows, but tight lows. Don't know how it would sound on the low B string on your 7 string though.

I thought you mainly play pop punk like Blink-182.

A Warpig in B-tuning will sound more like (grindcore band) Gronibard!

when it comes to my youtube channel, yeah thats a lot of what i do but my own stuff its a lot different. plus for years before going bare knuckle, my main pickup was the seymour duncan invader. so i think i'll be good. if i didnt have a juggernaut in my 6 string, i'd probably go for the jugg in the 7 but i wanna try new things. and if i ever dont like what i hear, i'll fix it somehow.

They're way better than the invaders IMO. If you're Doing drop tunings and want the warpig go for the ceramic. They are my favorite BKP. Big, power, balls, versatile and the best pinch harmonics and squeals I've heard to date. I love them in standard tuning and whole step down.

Low A and drop D would be very low even without the WP. But 7 can be a fun experiment at times.:)

Warpig can handle it. Just make sure it's ceramic. Alnico version, I don't go lower than D. I think you will thoroughly enjoy it.
