Whats the difference and benefits for single coils with either staggered pole pieces of a flat profile

It's to do with fingerboard radius really...................a vintage radius board of say 7 to 9" is quite curved and the stagger seems to suit this and almost match the radius.Anything flatter than 10" and a stagger can sound imbalanced as some of the poles, particularly the D/G , are closer and others ,especially the B, further away.This is where a flat profile magnet balances the volume string to string much better.

how would i go about measuring the radius of my fingerboard?...a maverick guitar so expect it would be quite modern in shape.

The vintage and vintage reissue necks have a radius that you might use staggered coils with, but for the modern ones it's not necessary.

Measuring fingerboard radius is quite tricky but a Maverick is almost cetainly going to be at least 14" and more likely 16" which is very flat.
As for Fender...well the vintage and reissue models usually have 7.25" rad which is very rounded but all f their standard US models are normally 9.5 or 10" which while still quite rounded, play better with flat profile magnets.
