The Jap Edge Pro seems v good too and the Gotoh one is rather good

Not so hot on the Korean one, or the TRS or Lo-TRS
there are copies of the Gotoh that are not as good as the original as well - so watch out.

We keep a lot of these in stock or can get them, so we have tried a few....

+1 on the lo-trs being junk. I have one. It's being swapped for a Gotoh, lol.

Absolutely. I thought the Lo Pro on my Jem was an excellent bridge, really senstitive, and not as clunky as an OFR.  (Check out the mellow instrumental in Off Topic and you can hear the trem work on the Lo Pro)

For me, though, it's gotta be an OFR. Purely personal preference, but I like it.

yeah, I agree, TO, it's mainly preference. The lo-pro and edge were designed to be more comfortable under your picking hand than an OFR, since they're both lower profile, but ironically most of the people who are used to the OFR still prefer the feel of it, lol.

FWIW, I like the OFR for crazy, more band-style whammy antics (big dive bombs and pull-ups, lol), but the edge is better for vai-type stuff, actually trying to bend the trem to a certain pitch, etc, since it feels a little smoother than the OFR.

So yeah, it's up to you, Mia. From what I know and hear, you won't go far wrong with either an OFR, Edge, Lo-pro edge, edge pro, Schaller or Gotoh. You just really need to try them, if you can, to see which you prefer, which is what really matters.

USA Jacksons, Schecter C1 FR, and the ESP MII all have OFR's, the Washburn X40pro and expensive Nuno signature models have a schaller, and the ibanez rg1570 or better has an edge pro, while older Prestige ibanez RG's have either an edge or lo-pro edge, if you can find them second hand, or NOS in a shop (if you want to try some guitars with these trems). I don't know of any off-the-shelf guitars that have Gotoh bridges, unless Legra and Gajic supply to shops.

Hope that helped, lol.

^ i think you have to set the trem up not to float (i.e. have no up-pull) for it to work.

And it won't fit on low-profile trems, as far as i know.

Dave is right
the trem needs to be set for downwards movement only for a D-tuna to work as otherwise when you drop the E to D all the other strings will go slightly sharp since the tension reduced in the E string will be taken up in all the other strings and the trem will pull back a little under the pull of the springs.

EVH does not have any pull up on his Floyd - the other advantage being that if he breaks a string the other strings dont all go sharp as they would on a floating trem

www.ibanezrules.com - ask Rich for a Lo-Pro Edge w/Locking Studs.

Best floating trem u can get, stay away from the new Edge Pro's and TRS's etc.

The lo-pro edges come with locking studs, I don't think you have to ask for them separately.

^well, the edge pros don't have locking studs to keep the trem 100% stable in the body. It's debatable how much this actually stabilises tuning (or general stability in the body), since OFR don't use them.

But Ibanez rules sell the edge pro and sell a locking stud mod kit, so you could just get that.

AFAIK, the edge pro with a locking stud mod is as good as a lo-pro edge.

This is edge pro I'm talking about, not edge pro II.

Dont suppose any of you have tried a Maverick guitar version of the floyd rose. Im concidering swapping it for an Ibanez edge but im not ri sure if its gonna be worth it.

Would the edge probably be smoother, more accurate and stable?
