Just ordered 3 new pickups :)
« on: February 23, 2015, 02:09:56 PM »
Well I'm happy to say I've just placed the order for 3 new pickups :)

To start off, I've just ordered the Holy Diver/Emerald combo for my ESP Eclipse Full Thickness.

Secondly, I've order a Black Dog to replace the Riff Raff bridge in my other Eclipse Full Thickness for the Black Dog/Mule combo :)

Looking forward to it :P
BKPs: ESP Eclipse I CTM FT w/Riff Raff bridge/Mule neck - ESP Eclipse I CTM w/Rebel Yells - LTD EC-1000 FT w/Aftermaths - Music Man JPIX w/Juggernauts

congratz! I`m really curious about Black Dog, for some reason that pickup grabs my attention a lot, but there`s not much good audio samples on the internet.

can`t wait for your BD review!

Fine choice. Yeah the BD could possibly use a bit more love. Let us know how it performs.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

exactly, I went through loads of youtube videos and there`s only couple of good ones with BD but still for some reason I cannot built the whole picture when it comes to BD. I suppose that pickup still is kind of mystery for me.
some people say that it`s really bright and really unbalanced while some state that it has some huge balls and deliver great rock/metal tones. Hmmm... anyway,  Annunaki lets us know how it sounds and if possible record some demos

I know that its bright, mid heavy voicing is supposed to absolutly slay in baritone guitars. Keeps up with the low tuning and handles the extended top and bottom end, filling out the mids, while staying tight. That allows it to deliver stunning metal tones with loads of character in those, while of course still being able to pull of all manner of low gain sounds. At least thatīs what I heard over the years.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

The EQ chart doesn't suggest it's massively bright and like others, I've always felt that the Black Dog would appeal to me so I too would love to read a detailed review.
BKP owned:

Bridge - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; A-Bomb; Holydiver; Miracle Man; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

When I was talking to Ben from BKP at some point, he emailed me saying that BD is even brighter than RY.

on the other hand, I`m just wondering how BD would perform in semi hollows or hollow bodied guitars. Feedback shouldn`t be an issue here as BD is lower output pup.

I wouldn't call it bright
it's VERY middy and dense sounding, so it has the "in-your-face" effect
top end is quite round
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

Uhm, "bright" might be a very subjective label and perceptions might differ. I for my part definitely wouldn't call the BD a "bright" pickup. It has a clear top end, but it is a relatively balanced pickup with a strong amount of lower mids. I would have thought that the BKP EQ chart depicts that as well.

as it seems to be a little brother of Holydiver, does BD shines on leads as well? or it`s not as good lead pickup as HD? I`m talking about bridge version.

I'm actually really looking forward to them. I kind of wanted a nice high gain setup in one eclipse. Then a vintage version of that setup in another guitar. I had the Riff Raff, but I just found it not having enough bottom end.

My reasoning for the Holy Diver was that I have the Rebel Yells, and whilst I love the harmonic qualities, and feel of the pickups, I just wanted something similar but fatter. I just found it never had that bottom end chug...well it did, but was a little to compact.

Which is exactly the sort of description that wouldn't immediately make me think it was a particularly bright pickup.

Yeah I keep hearing from different sources that it's bright, then from other sources that it's thick. Maybe it's just the PAFiness woody qualities that make you hear the snap or something? I remember reading that it's good for Satriani style music, too. Also another review saying it has that sort of double/triple tracked sound from it, kind of like Trivium. That sold it for me haha.

This is what the website says:.
Quote
An aggressive, throaty humbucker with deep bottom-end, muscular mids, smooth highs and more output than a vintage PAF.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog
