Posting a big valve amp?
« on: April 08, 2015, 10:27:57 AM »
I'm selling my Silverface Pro reverb and I've had an enquiry from a guy who lives hundreds of miles away who wants a courier to pick up the amp. The amp is about the same size and weight as a Twin reverb so seriously heavy.

Any suggestions how I could pack it to be reasonably safe with a courier? I can't think of where to get packing that would be strong enough to hold this beast!

My Peavey 6534+ came in a big cardboard box (the Peavey box) with egg carton type corners inside it to space it away from the side of the box and wrapped in bubble wrap (inside the box) if I remember correctly.  I'm pretty sure it was inside some kind of waterproof courier bag too

Sorry but this is the only photo I have of the box.

It was absolutely fine.  I will say though that Peaveys are famously durable though.  Some amps probably don't take as much punishment.  As you can see there are no dents in the box, so maybe I was just lucky

Thanks, yeah all I could think of was trying to beg an amp box from a local music store, maybe the packing from a Twin Reverb or AC30 might be up to the job.

Call your local music stores, they might have some spare boxes.

Thanks I tried that but they all said they use their amp boxes and almost never have any to spare. I did find a storage company that sells big boxes relatively cheaply. I still shudder at the thought of trusting a courier with a vintage valve amp though!
