Haha yeah I know, but the way sambos making them out to be, hes giving them a bad name :lol: The studiotone there isnt too badly priced though, gotta play me one sometime :)

You have to be careful what you say about other folks business's in forums! That's why I stuck up for them cos I used them all the time when they had a branch in Harlow and found them to be a great dealer, apart from one little thingy!

sorry i wasnt trying to just slag them off for no reason...

ive always had my doubts abuot em and the pup incident was confirmation. i dunno what the harlow branch was like... but the hitchin branch, where the manager works, is terrible. they have great gear, and SOME of that gear is at great prices- other gear is dreadfully overcharged. so i actually recommend them for some things... you can get good deals... but the service is what lets them down... sure, a couple of the staff are cool, and if your willing to throw your money at the owner hes a pleasant chap... but hes got this underlying nasty streak... its unexplainable but hes a real bar-steward sometimes... a lot of my mates haev complained about him too.

maybe its just something against me, or young people in general, i dunno.... the owner and all the other staff could be the nicest guys in the world to everyone else but they're not to me....

just my experience, im probably being quite harsh because im young and naieve and because im still really pissed off. id just use common sense and shop around because some of their prices are uneven- like i said- some great prices some not so good. id take my opinion with a pinch of salt really lol.

anyway, i think indy said that the 5150 had no tone in general lol :P

thanks for the links searcher, i think i did a thread or some post about this somewhere else- getting an amp with really nice clean tones and then getting an overdrive/distortion pedal to bring that great tone out in distortion..... dunno what the end result would be like tho...?

yer i noticed that musicman!!! just by the brand thought it was cheap even though ive never heard anything of their amps..

Musicmans cheap??? Lol! There hand made in California and quite rare. They used to make guitars too and got taken over by Ernie Ball. They do sound nice for the cleans. In your price range you may have to boost the distortion sounds with a pedal of some kind. £300 is a good price.

Your best bet is to start trying stuff out for yourself as opposed to hearsay.

clean tones? - screw that, get something with the overdriven tone you REALLY like then think about clean later.

I use clean maybe 1% of the time so I'm not losing any sleep over a clean tone - I just roll my guitar volume back (I prefer that dirty clean tone like Slayer get on recent albums for atmospheric sections)

I suggested a 5150 combo for Sambo since it covers alot of rock/metal tones. The clean (aka rhythm) channel is more like a 'vintage rock' channel really, you can get all your Zep, AC/DC, Stones type of tones in there. As for sparkling Fender cleans, it won't do 'em - I leave that shite for Jazzers

hmmmm its gonna be a tough choice.... ive heard about 5150's and associated em with awesome distortion.... need to decide how important the cleans really are to me.....

+1 on kochs being good. I was very impressed with the multitone when i tried it at holiday music (ironically when i was on holiday). Just didn't get into metal territory enough for me, and as i was only able to go that one day, of course they had sold out of the powertones, so i couldn't try that, grrr

There probably more a general rock amp. If you like good metal amps try out the powertone II. They do all the tones really, anything you want. Are you going to the London Guitar Show? That's the place to have an amp shootout!! :P
