1966 SG Melody Maker 1

I got this recently and I'm in love. Crazy little guitar with a noisy singlecoil pickup.

It's turned out to be stunning recording guitar. It'll cut through any mix and is wonderful with effects. It's also strangely charming to play considering it has a very narrow, but very chunky neck. Great upper access of helps. Short clip..........https://soundcloud.com/bastia20/chillhop-1

So I got a 60s braz board Gibson with plenty of dings, but almost no play wear for 800 quid and I'm very happy.

Sweet. Í like that lightly faded fiesta red, or is it another red. Difficult to judge by photo's. Sounds probably like a fat tele (which is good).

Never seen something like that. Just one single coil....well, I donīt think that would work for me in the longrun. Then again I a guitar with only a neck P90...

Anyhow, cool looking, sounds like it is made for you, so congrats mate!

I always liked the MM pickups.  I have a DC from the early 60's and had an Epiphone Double Olympic from about 66, which had the same pickups.  Have fun with it.  They are nice and light too.

It's nice that Melody Makers are still affordable.  My only vintage guitar is a '65 MM in the previous body shape (Joan Jett style).

Absolutely. What you might call under the radar guitars. I never dreamt I could own a vintage Gibson. The checking on nigh on gives me goosebumps.

The finish on yours looks in great nick!

I think mine has the original finish and it hasn't had any irreversible surgery, but it did come with a Badass bridge and replacement tuners (individual Kluson types, not Grovers, thankfully).  I also changed the pickup, but I'm planning to put it back to something like original spec.  It's got a Pigtail bridge at the moment but I've bought an aged "lightning bar" bridge, compensated for a plain third string.

The Maestro has been quite a surprise. Not only does it work well the guitar holds tune too. Who'd a thunk it?

I've always been intrigued by Maestros, mainly because of Andy Powell, but I've only tried one very briefly, I think it was on a Feline guitar.  I guess the way it's designed it wouldn't have a detrimental effect on sustain.

My Melody Maker's a hardtail, and it looks like it always was - no screw holes in the top.

In all honesty I think it does suck a little sustain out plus I think you can hear a midrangey metallic thing going on, but I don't care, I love the sound of it.

Thanks mate. It's really tugged on my heartstrings like no other. I mean I've got seventeen other guitars all various shades of fab, but this one is like a 60s hippy chick has moved in, happy days.
