VHII or Black Dog (or both)?
« on: November 26, 2015, 03:35:35 AM »
Hey, everyone. I am coming to the conclusion that perhaps the calibrated set of Rebel Yells that i have in my custom Monson Nomad may not be the best fit for that particular guitar. It boasts a mahogany neck-through, sapele body, claro walnut top, and ebony fretboard. I keep it in D standard, and i am starting to think that the Rebel Yells are a bit too thin and flubby, specifically in the neck position.  I had a Seymour Duncan Jazz in the neck before i opted to get the Rebel Yells; would the VHII be a good fit for warm, jazzy cleans? As for the bridge, how would either the VH II or the Black Dog fit? I like a big, open distortion that is not without its share of tightness. I do not really go for "modern" djenty tones. I play a mixture of black/death metal, post punk, and ambient/atmospheric leanings.

Regards,
Alec

the vhII bridge sounds more open than the black dog, in my experience
but you shouldn't rule out the riff raff

the neck black dog should be closer to a duncan jazz than the neck vhii, though
