Hello guys! I have been playing with the thought of finally having all of my guitars equipped with BKPs lately. There is only one without BKPs, a Mayones Setius with EMG 81x/85x. It is tuned in D standard/drop C and it sounds good for metalcore like Bullet for my Valentine (obviously, because they use EMGs themselves) but it sounds too modern for stuff like Volbeat. Before I got the EMGs the guitar had a set of Cold Sweat (b) and VHII (n). The VHII was absolutely stunning and did not get affected too much by the change of tuning, but the CS lost all its power and oomph. Sounded epic in E and Eb though. The EMGs have a few issues; the batteries can be a hassle, the volume pot has started to act really weird and the tone pot does not do much. I want a set of pickups that sound great for downtuning, as well as E standard if I ever decide to tune it up again. The Black Hawks have been very exciting ever since their release, I like the idea about active tone without batteries, but are they very modern sounding? The Rebel Yells are great pickups as well, they are more vintage sounding and suits the guitar really well (very dark sounding guitar, almost darker than my Les Paul). But do they handle downtuning well? I have also been looking at the Miracle Man, C-bomb and even Black Dog.
