Yep, Vox Tonelab.
I can only agree with hunter. Great piece of gear!! :)
Compared to the pod it's much more vintage oriented.
Oh, and nice clips!

It also sounds much more authentic than any pod tones I have heard as well!

Well, there is some post production involved with those clips, I have to say. The speaker sims of the TLab aren't that great, but overall the sounds are superb, very versatile. This modeler has actually given me back the fun of guitar playing.

I recommend to exchange the stock EH12AX7A with a JJ one - gives more warmth and depth indeed (ensure to use the highest spec ones), and the presence should be used with caution on the Soldano model...

Meanwhile I'm not touching it so much, as I'm back to playing loud (band assignment:), which means less effects and a valve head (ENGL Screamer). At the moment I only use the Engl, a RMC3 Wah and a T.Rex Replica Delay. These are all finest components and give a nice sound indeed - however it's much harder to capture than the Tonelab sounds.

I would be wondering actually what it would be like to play the TLab directly into the PA system...

Hi Hunter,
I read about changing the tube but as i know nothing about tubes I'm curious is it hard to exchange?
And what are highest specs for tubes?

About direct into PA:
I play in two bands.
For my Funk band I use the TLab direct into the PA and it sounds quite good. but it's mainly clean sounds.
With my progressive rock band I go through a Peavey 50/50 into a 4x12cab and it sounds great (at least to my ears).

I tried some of the heavy, distorted sounds I use in my prog band through a PA and that didn't work. They're not as warm, full, organic and there's no oomph!!! :)

Hey,

Changing the tube is no big deal, though it requires a little fiddling around, as the opening is done a little too tight at the tonelab. But it's just plugging the old one out and the new one in, trying not to break anything :)

Highest spec is when ordering the tube, order it for V1 spec, that means a selected one that has less noise and microphonics and is eligible for being used in the first stage of an amp.

Good luck!

The lack of oomph in the PA variant could be related to the speaker sims which are a little thin ...

I got a Tonelab SE for 2 years now and can't get enough of it. I'm just blown away every time by how real it sounds. I got a Toneport UX2 too, sound really good but don't have that warmth the tonelab get.
A funny thing, many people say the Tonelab sucks for metal tone, but if you carefully tune the settings like a real amp, it screams like a beast  (my favorite : tube overdrive maxed out + jcm800 + H30 cab sim, kicks ass)

Thanks guys, and I#m hardly using the TLab since I got my Bognerbaby:) But gotta say that TLab is easier to play than a real amp, so recording with the other gear is kinda hard.

Dude you got demands:) Dunno the stranglehold setting anymore, but done one here with a different setting.

Don't judge me on the original please, I am really not fast enough, my wah battery is dead and my guitar is out of tune. :( Still, it's a neck clip of the BDs so here we go

Nice clips Hunter.

I especially like the Sweet Child sound sample.

Very Guns and Roses-ish.

The tone was spot on and the solo was played perfectly

I assume you are using Black Dogs still for the clips...

And the neck pickup??

Keep it up   ,

So it seems a Black Dog and a Mule would be the perfect combination to replicate Page, Slash and Moore tones

Right??
