Well I think we've settled on "Deaf by Thirty" which was on that site that Searcher posted.. I dont like it that much but so long as the musics good (which it actually is) then the name shouldnt matter..

Anyway, one question. Are cover bands allowed to have recordings of their covers? We are setting one up but not sure if we are allowed to post songs as and when we record them.

Technically I think you should pay performance royalties for cover songs, and if you record songs you have to pay royalties on any sales.

:D That`s a shame i liked "Jive Turkeys" !  :P

A lot of cover bands record demos. There are some venues who insist on demos in order to get gigs.
I would suggest that you don`t record full songs but record small snippets say intro, verse, bridge & chorus. Then you can record  7 - 8  songs as it were & this will help give Landlords & agents a much better idea of what you sound like, without  taking up huge amounts of there time. Which there`ll apriciate.

God I could do with a Gin & Tonic !

haha I liked Jive Turkeys aswell.. Its not like we'd be selling copies of CDs with our covers on or whatever so I'm guessing its ok.. my mate who set up the myspace said it didnt say anything about covers in the t&c's..

I had an idea of a name Tom but looks like you don't need it but I will say it anyway."The Scruby"- named after a man who works with a friend of mine- Phil Scruby. I just liked the sound "Scruby"- a bit childish of me I know but mildly amusing- at least to me.

Well... if anyones interested we now have a BAD quality recording done with a single mic into my mates laptop on here -

 http://www.myspace.com/deafbythirtymusic

I did the lead and harmony lines in Dont Believe a Word, and the rhythm parts in the other two... it all sounds cr@p with the single mic though   You get the idea though I guess. The bassists brother actually owns a studio so we can probably get some free recording time there anyway  :D

Given that that was one mic that was pretty good- sounded competent and it is difficult to be constructed without being in the room with you listening to every bit.

:)  It's good, Tom. I only listened to Money For Nothing though, because I don't much like the other songs, even when done by the original bands.  Hey, I don't remember hearing the "little faggot with the earring and the makeup" line. Not politically correct these days, huh?  ;)

oops I meant difficult to be constructive but I expect you realised that although I do find it difficult to be constructed too these days come to think of it.

I hate most of the songs we do to be honest, but I like playing in a band, plus I want the experience of gigs to get my confidence up for when I find an original band to be in. I dont know anything about the "faggot" line, I've only listened to the original a few times

Tom are you from Desborough then? I'd always assumed you were from Kettering. My sister lives in Desborough, and another mate of mine is from around there (he left because he pissed off the gypsies).
