Cables for pedalboard?

Cheers everyone,

so finally my last pedals including my Carl Martin Octaswitch arrived (NPD Thread coming as soon as I have the time) and everything is working just as I wanted it to. The thing is everything looks like a mess right now after using the cables I had at my disposal. Picture is attached for you to see what I'm talking about.

Now I'm basically looking for a solution to make my own patchcables in order to arrange all the pedals in a way where they take up as little space as possible for an eventual pedalboard build in the future. I think I overheard people talking about solutions that are offered where you can basically buy a kit and cut the cables as long or as short as you need them and just put on the needed plugs.

I'm too lazy right now to do all the research so I figured I ask you fine people round here. Does Thomann offer kits? Are there any recommended brands? How much money are we talking? I'd really appreciate your input guys! :)

The 3 big players are George L's, Lava Cable, and Planet Waves.

I used to do it old school, buy switchcraft jacks and use high quality instrument cable but a good friend of mine steered me into free the tone's solderless stuff when I was trying to cut weight on my board. He is no joke, teched for Bring me the Horizon for years as well as Foals, you me at six and a bunch of other big bands.

We've been touring with the Free the Tone solderless stuff for about 2 years now and had one cable failure. Which is a pretty good track record. They're far lighter and more manageable than the regular stuff and the plugs are super low profile. Can't recommend this stuff enough. I've only had poor experience with other solderless brands, the planet waves stuff is especially bad.

Its funny, I like alot of planet wave stuff - the headstock tuner, the machine heads, the capo... but yeah, I agree their cables are of dubious quality. I wouldn't buy any more.

Thanks for the advice guys, unfortunately the only brand Thomann seems to be selling right now is in deed Planet Waves. I looked up Free the Tone but they don't seem to have a dealer in Austria, I'll contact them and ask for a possibility to ship from Germany.

I personally think it's easier and cheaper to just buy a reel or decent length of van damme cabling and some switchcraft jacks and cut/solder to whatever lengths you need.

Then again I love soldering.

I've been using Mogami patch cables for the best part of 5 years now and never had a single failure. I've also got a couple of Planet Waves patch ones and never had an issue with them either. Maybe I'm just lucky or don't seem to play enough!

I've only played a George L's jack-to-jack lead, not the actual patch cable. But I know a lot of pro's use them as you can make the lengths how you want.

Thanks for all the input guys, I checked out the options you suggested and found a retailer in Germany who sells George L's. Probably just gonna go with that option as everything else would need to be send over to Austria and the shipping from Germany to Austria is rather cheap. Plus they should still be way better (and cheaper!) than the Planet Waves stuff (according to reviews)
