NPD - Jimi Hendrix System "Classic Fuzz"
« on: January 10, 2017, 10:11:11 AM »
This is a red MXR pedal the size of a Phase 90.

I'm very pleased with it. I wanted a cheap silicon fuzz face in a pedal format and scored this. Actually, it turns out this pedal has a few surprises up its sleeve.

It has a special input buffer, so you can use it anywhere in the pedal chain - not like a fuzz face. In fact, it seems to be a similar idea to the MXR 108 Classic Fuzz. Except for this one, you can't disable the buffer.

The buffer is good though however and doesn't really detriment the tone of the fuzz. Plus you can still roll down the volume on your guitar and have it clean up. Not as well as an unbuffered fuzz face maybe, but still very well. It also means that the fuzz control is usable, which is not really the case on a normal fuzz face.

The fuzz tone itself really rocks.

If you're after a fuzz look for one of these! I think its a bit of a "sleeper"

I have what I think is the same pedal.  A friend used to own a guitar shop, and when it closed down I got a few things off him at bargain prices, and a couple of pedals, including this one, for nothing!  I haven't used it recently, but I do remember being surprised by how good it was, although I didn't think it sounded much like a sixties fuzz.
cry HAVOC!! and let slip the pigs of war!!!

I agree! Doesn't sound very Hendrix at all. I think they just called it that since because of the input buffer you can run wah -> fuzz without problems.
