replace Lindy Fralin P90s with something a bit rockier!
« on: February 13, 2017, 09:03:33 PM »
Hi Ive got a Fano JM6 that is fitted with Lindy Fralin P90s.  I like the sound but the bridge pickup does not cope with gain.  It soon turns to a howl.  I had thought of replacing them with Supermassives to get a more rock orientated pickup.  Any comments or thoughts?

Thanks

Supermassive is definetly rock voiced, but note that it starts to have a modern basecharacter imho. Fairly full and with a lightly rounded top end. This is all compared to the MQ, which you should consider too. For one, the Supermassive is inspired by a sound gotten by using an MQ (as is the Stockholm for that matter), so it can do quite a lot. Of course Belamy uses a fair bit of stuff on his sounds too, so it also depends on the rest of your gear.
The MQ can do very classic sounds, but is almost shockingly versatile, especially as it stays pretty darn tight under gain. If you need to push your amp a touch harder and need extra low end pump plus a little more modern character the SM could be better.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid
