What bridge PU for Modern Fusion Metal?
« on: June 19, 2017, 06:37:20 PM »
Hello all !

Sorry for the title but it's hard to make one proper...

So here we are : I'm looking for great bridge PU for my actual and futur guitar. For I need something really warm, very agressive and with a lot of grain. Like big waves of sound when I do powerchords (because I mainly do powerchords...). I tend to love high frequencies and V equalization. Like the fuzz we can hear pleasures my ears lol. Moreover I also like big fat and growly PM.

Here is my actual gear :
-Lag Imperator 1000 (Mahogany Body/Flame Maple/Mahogany Neck/Ebony Fretboard) with a Seymour Ducan SH11 in the bridge and a SH2 in the neck. The SH11 is good, but I'm sure I can find something more agressive.
-Bugera Trirec (a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier clone). I LOVE the tone, but it lacks agressivity.
-Orange Dark Terror
-Orange PPC212

In the futur I hope to own a Peavey 6505 or EVH 5150 and an Engl Powerball. For the guitar, I don't know. Maybe a Mayones Setius.

Here are tones I like :
-Nightwish : Storytime (ESP Horizon with SH5 and Mesa Dual Recto). I like the tone but it's a bit too dry.
-Dangerkids : Light Escapes (Reverend Sensei RA with Railhammer Chisel) or Nothing Worth Saving (I don't know. Maybe an Ibanez ARZ6UC with BKP Nailbombs, but I'm not sure at all). I like both but strangely it's like the second one lacks some attack. What do you think? (for the amp I don't know)
-Linkin Park : Numb (PRS, Dual Recto and that's all I know). Great, but I think I can have better.
-All That Remains : This Probably Won't End Well : EMG 81 I guess. I love the agressivity thanks to the Peavey 6505, but I don't really like the EMGs...

Here are pickups I have in mind :
-Juggernaut : I've once tried on a Mayones Setius one and loved it
-Nailbomb : Are they enough modern?
-Crawler : I've heard good things, but don't know much about it
-Black Hawk : (same)
-Railhammer Chisel : I can't find enough soundbanks for them. Do you know them?
-Kami Arashi : a very rare PU on which I can find nothing except that it's amazing. Do you more about it?

Do you have any suggestion? :)

Black Hawks are great, a bit more compressed than avarage BKP though, insane clarity and bite. Not overdone midrange. Really agressive yet full sounding, can't go wrong with them IMO.

I haven't tried nailbomb, but I think it should do the job. Should be plenty tight and agressive, a bit dry though.

Crawler is a bit fatter, more classic voiced pickup... Not what you're looking for.

Would love to know more about juggs.

Consider aftermath if you like your tone insanely tight and precise, but keep in mind that they are pretty bright - they don't sound as full on power chords. It's dry af.

Thanks !

I gonna have a look upon the BH. It's very hard to find some where I am...

I don't like the aftermath. I've tried one and I think they'll be, as you said, too bright and dry for me. I think they are too "djenty" for me : focused on clarity more than the muddy grain I love.

The Juggernauts are amazing ! They have an incredible response with PM and a very high clarity (the reason I'm not sure about having them). They are really accurate and made for single chord uses. But they keep a natural agressivity and a tone plenty of life

Any other ideas?  :azn:

I have a set of juggs on a lag arkane 2000 and an A-Bomb bridge on an Arkane 1000.

Warm, very aggressive and with a lot of gain sounds more like the nailbomb to me... The Juggs are very tight and warm at the same time, but less aggressive than the nailbomb to my ears. They are also quite dry, but to me they sound amazing
I can send you a few samples of riffs in E with a mesa roadster and a torpedo live if you want.

Concerning the arashi,n i can't tell anything you haven't already read on a well known french forum... They are handmade by one person and really really rare, i don't think you'll find someone who has already tried them here

A-bomb in mahogany guitar will always work well with Peavey 6505, EVH, or ENGL powerball for the types of sounds you are wanting
BLACK HAWKS
IMPULSES
COBRA-T
WAR PIGS
STOCKHOLM
COLD SWEATS
MIRACLE MAN
TRUE GRIT

Thank you all !

I'll try to find a Nailbomb or a Black Hawk

Do you know websites where I could find them in second hand? It might be anywhere in Europe. I already know some French websites, and a British one. Any suggestions?

Hard to come across BKP second hand tbh. You might have to buy new ones.

Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul
Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22
Emerald - Les Paul
Warpig - Caparison Horus

Have you checked the "for sale" section on here? I've  got a Nail Bomb Set for Sale on there.

Darkandrew : I'm new here and I didn't even know there was a for sale section. I'm trying to find it, but for the moment I'm too dumb to find it x)

Capac : I'd prefer to try the BH, but I can't find any in used condition. Moreover, I have about 80€ of budget. I sometimes see some BKP at that price, but it's not often...

I recently succeeded in winning a nailbomb on a famous bid website, but thanks to a stupid payment problem, the seller cancelled my order... I'm disappointed :(

That's a shame... Maybe just save up additional 20EUR or so. They are worth it.

It really does sound like you're describing the Nailbomb, but for a second choice I think the Miracle Man would be a better choice than the Black Hawk?

Miracle man is a little bit scooped sounding for me, lots of bass. Nailbomb should work.
