Jackson RR24M - Pickup upgrade
« on: September 06, 2017, 12:16:19 AM »
Hi All,

I recently acquired a beautiful Jackson RR24M that came with the Alexi Laiho signature EMG pickup with the boost. Really nice sounding/playing guitar overall, I just find the pickup to be a bit too muddy for my needs (versatility but mostly extreme metal oriented).

Can you suggest a pickup that will match well with my guitar (Maple neckthrough, maple fret board, maple wings)? I understand becuase of the guitar size being a bit smaller than the usual something  fatter may be needed, don't quote me on that its what I have read so far. Any help will be appreciated

Thanks!

Miracle Man performs well in neck through guitars.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Yep Miracle Man would be best.  It is a great lead pickup too, which is important in a single pickup guitar.

You'll need the 53mm spacing.

Do you think? I'll check it out. I've read several posts about it being a bit too trebly for small body guitars. Most people suggests a ceramic Warpig instead. A good lead would be ideal though, I plan on using it for a one guitar, one bass player, one drummer band, so I guess I need something that will be good enough for rhythm and Lead work.

I Forgot to mention: I use a Jackson RR24M, going through either a Marshall jvm410h or an ENGL E530 preamp through a 4x12 Marshall 1960 cab (gt75s) and/or a 2x12 (Warehouse Veteran 30 an ET65 speakers). Besides that I only use a boss tu2, a TS9 an ISP decimator and a Cantrell wah. Pretty straight up rig.

I like simple rigs. The MM will do fine in this setup.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Dave Sloven,

I tune in D most of the time, may be using Drop C or C# tuning also.

Telerocker / Dave,

Ill check the Miracle  man thanks, is there a specific option to check? Alnico, ceramic?

I think the Miracle Man should be nice in that tuning.

The MM bridge is ceramic, no options.

You would want 53mm spacing option to match your bridge, and most likely short leg (default).  I would also make sure it has the four-conductor wiring (pretty sure that is a default).  You can option in different screws, bobbin colours, and covers.

I have this guitar with a ebony board. A painkiller is fitted - attack is a little too much.

I can definitely see a Miracle Man working.

Thanks!!!! Ill go ahead and order a Miracle man then, it seems like the best choice. It'll be my first BKP but I am sure I am going to love it.

the miracle man is one of the most unique sounding pickups I ever had
I never get it why it became so overlooked compared to the other contemporary models
it's one of the punchiest yet clearest bkp models and delivers a really beautiful metal lead tone
plus, it has the best splitted clean and overdriven tones I ever heard from a high output or ceramic humbucker
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

The newer models are taking the limelight I guess.

I myself love the rhythm tone, good and thick (lower mids) yet cutting. Into a JCM800 it sounds very organic.
