alrighty, im sick of bands, so ive decided to go solo. been thinking of just myself singing with my acoustic, but also been pondering the use of some drum loops, ala talking heads (download psycho killer off the stop making sense album for the kinda thing i mean).

so i need a drum machine/sequencer. i'm hoping to keep it cheap, so my laptop will have to do. is there any cheap (or even free) drum sequencers out there? i have fruity loops but it doesnt seem to like me, nothing i try works that well.

anyone able to help a poor student want to make sweet, sweet music?

Well, me and my friend are kind of a guitar duo. We use a program called Drumsite. Its got some good realistic drum sounds, but i always tweak EQ and add a little reverb once ive put the loops into another prog.

Its fairly cheap, but the interface is a bit cr@ppy. Theres no shortcut to delete hits afaik, so you have to keep right clicking and selecting delete. Still, we get by pretty happily with it, altho its my friend who writes all the drum riffs. I've dabbled in it a  little while trying to make solo stuff, and i can highly recommend. Im just not all that good with writing drums

Yeah this is something that comes up for me and indeed I have sought the advice of forum members before now. Drums are a real pain to sort. I cannot get on with the drums used in a cubase environment nor do  like drum machines.Recording real drums is an art in itself and playing live, using loops /machines has been a long standing issue and one that I have not got to grips with ( as I do play the occasional solo or duo gig). I will be using a mate's Boss DR880 in the next few weeks- he says it is pretty good. I will let you know how I get on as I have to record some new songs I have written.
