Advise on Les Paul Studio
« on: January 09, 2018, 08:44:50 PM »
Hello everydody, first post here.

I am Fernando From Spain and first of all i would like to thank everybody for the great information in this forum.

My case is the following:  I have two Gibson Les Paul, one an Standards which im quite happy and a Gibson Les Paul Joe Bonamassa Studio.

Both are in the same ballpark but i like the stardard sound more than the Studio. So i am thinking in changing the pickups from the Burstbacker 2 and 3 that come in the Studio, for a set that could be a departure from the Les Paul PAF.

I am searching for a harder sound that put me on Dream Theater/Metallica Black Album  territory, but I also would like to have the Marshall crunchy sound from Van Halen or Extreme.

After reading a lot of posts,  I think that a Cold Sweat Set or a Cold Sweat Nect/Miracle MAn Bridge could do this, but i would like to know your  opinion about this.

Thanks a lot in advance!!

Lucas

It all depends on how much you play leads on bridge pickup as well as how aggressive sound you`re after.
I would either go Ceramic Nailbomb/Cold Sweat neck or Cold Sweat set. I have both.

Neither of them are real 'metal' pickups, rather heavy/hard rock, both amazing rhythm pickups, both have good cleans (for ceramics, but prefer CBomb on cleans), Cold Sweat has better lead sound, Cbomb is more aggressive with more attitude as well as have more mids. Cbomb sounds slightly more 'modern' to my ears and has more raspy attitude.

Regarding Miracle Man. I also have Miracle Man in 2 other guitars, it`s more metal pickup than the 2 mentioned above, it`s smoother sounding with more bottom end and amazing lead sound. I like both Cbomb and Cold Sweat on cleans than Miracle Man. But when it comes to metal and distorted sounds MM is my favorite one (that`s why I have in in 2 guitars), pure gem, great pickup.

Cold Sweat neck is amazing but you might find it a bit dark in darker sounding LP.

For Metallica I would go Miracle Man/Cold Sweat but if you want to still have that crunchy 'rock' sound I would go for Cold Sweat set or CBomb/Cold Sweat
hope it helps.
