Wiring question
« on: May 01, 2018, 10:37:42 AM »
Suppose I would combine a Crawler and a Little 59 neck in a superstrat and I want to split only the Crawler, how this should be wired? It would be convenient when the tonepot has a push-pull or push-push to split the bridge humbucker. I'm asking this for a mate who wants to build a guitar with this configuration. He's pretty much settled on a Crawler-bridge, but a split is a must. Thx!

Can you use an on-on dpdt microtoggle?  You just wire them up the same way you'd wire up a push-pull. Depends on whether it has a pickguard that you can fit it into.

I was even able to get some in black chrome.  Allparts EP-4181-003 (via eBay)

Allparts list them in black, gold, chrome, and black chrome. https://www.allparts.com/Switches_c_496-2-3.html

Is your friend looking for wiring diagrams to do this himself or just to know if it possible? It can definitely be done, and you could split the Crawler using a push pull pot then just take the hot lead from that and run it to the switch and wire the guitar as normal. As Dave Sloven suggested, you can also use an on-on mini toggle (which is what I did for series, parallel, split for the Holy Diver I wired up). I can probably dig up and post a wiring diagram if your friend wants.

I think that might have been an on-on-on mini toggle?  Pretty sure on-on can only do one or the other

Yes, he wants to do it himself. I found some diagrams. We'will sort it out. Thx guys!

I worded my initial response quite poorly (it’s what I get for typing on my phone I suppose), I meant to say I also used a mini toggle for my wiring like you recommended, but yes you are correct it was an on/on/on 3 way mini toggle (which I should have mentioned in my first reply).
