Metal leads neck pickup?
« on: April 16, 2006, 10:03:09 PM »
Basically i'm looking for lead tones like necrophagist, decapitated, and mainly James murphy, I've always loved his soloing tones. Haven't seen many death heads on the boards, so I'm guessing some of the veterans may not know who i'm talking about, so i've uploaded a couple of tracks to demonstrate.

Necrophagist - Advanced Corpse Tumour

(Possibly the greatest solo ever - 2:30)

Roadrunner United - Annihilation by the hand of god

(James Murphy's pwn tone - 2:54)

So yeah, any help getting a neck pickup to sound like either of these would be great. This is going in an all mahogany LP by the way. Not really too bothered about the clean tone, but a nice clean would be a bonus.

Oh yeah, change the hxxp to http at the start of the link by the way.

I'm sure a lot of people are going to put votes in for the Cold Sweat. I've had it suggested to me. I'm sure many of the neck pickups in the contemporary humbucker line would be great for smooth metal leads though. So, good luck!

I'd say the miracle man pickups would work nicely. The links you put up have "hxxp", http would probably work better.

Alright I just listenned to those and I recon from the descriptions of the CS, it would do great. Its said to have (I havent tried it) a mid peak like a half c--ked wah. Those sounds have a really clear but quite cutting mid spike to them.

Its what I'd go for at least, from what I know of the BK neck humbuckers.

Cheers for the replies people.

As i said in my first post, you're supposed to change the hxxp to http. I had to change it to hxxp to stop yousendit from tracking it. They do that to prevent mass filesharing. They take down the files if they find thme posted on forums.

dude if you look in another recent pickup question thread, Tim said for a neck pup, the Cold Sweats are perfect for metal leads, articulate/sweep picking n stuff.....
