BKP Strat Set - Bridge Pickup Stopped Working?
« on: October 08, 2018, 11:30:29 PM »
Hey folks,
I installed my pre-wired guard with my 3 BKP's in my strat. SSS config. Everything was great for about 1 week and today the bridge pickup is not working.

It sounds like it's maybe 10% of the volume as the others.

Took it off, checked the wiring.... no issues that I can see.
Took the cover off the pup and everything looks good.

Ben from BKP's is helping me troubleshoot but I thought I would reach out to see if anyone had any ideas?

Check that the pots are not contacting shielding within the cavity.

A friend of mine had this issue with an Epiphone Custom Shop SG with P-90s. I had a look in the cavity and there was masking tape (!) under the lugs on the pots to keep the hot insulated from the shielding paint.  It had slipped off a little on the bridge tone and that was causing the symptom you have described.  I replaced it with electrical tape and the problem was gone.  You might want to try that first.  Very easy

On a Strat check the pickguard for this kind of short

Could this be caused if the capacitor is touching the paint in the cavity?

The capacitor maybe not, but if the wires going from it to the pots, then yes.  You can always put some electrical tape on the wall of the cavity where you think it might be shorting.  It's a cheap fix if that's what it is.

Thanks for the posts guys. Per Ben's recommendation, I ended up reactivating the solder points on the pickup and that took care of the issue.
