PodXT Update
« on: April 21, 2006, 10:01:02 PM »
There is now a new update out for the Pod Xt, in which you get some new amps, some new cabs, some more wahs (like, more than just one!) and a few fx (including a pitch bend effect!?) I am d/l'ing now...

You can also now get all the Bass PodXT models on the normal guitar version too, I am quite intrigued by this, asbass amps usually sound fairly good with clean guitar (or 7 string/low tuned) and it has like 8x10/2x15 cabs etc, I reckon that is probably worth getting, jsut for the amount of weird cominations you can get, I want to know if you can mix the guitar amps with bass cabs though, that'd be cool...

downloaded the update yesterday, at the cost of losing all my existing patches. My fault though, i turned it off at the wrong time. definately worth getting if you have the pod, some cool new stuff to play around with.

I've got the podxt live, chose it just cos it's so easy to operate, and it also came wit the FX junkie update pre-installed. The Pod is an amazing tool, great for recording, or pairing with a poweramp.

I compared it to the GT8 and found that the pod excells in its amp models, and beat the GT8 by far, where as the GT8 excells in effects, but still don't sound majorly better than the pods. I'd get a GT8 if you're planning to use it live through an amp just for FX, but if you want the amp models, definately get the pod.

I have the normal xt (bean shaped one) and I use it with the Atomic Reactor 112, it is a all valve 18w closed back 1x12 with a bass port  (check out atomicamps.com they are built for modelers, best invention ever!!)

I had a Boss GT6 before and the complexity of the effects was really good, lots more tweakable than the xt, but a little overwhelming at times as well as being a little to digital on the distortions. It is also pretty big (that's why I got a normal pod, and not an XT live, as I have the shortboard there isn't really much differnce but it isn't attached all the time)

Another really good thing about the line 6 stuff is the USB, it updates it, you can record throught it, edit and so on...

cool thanks guys...

yeh i was trying to convince myself that i must be an idiot- cause i preferred the POD's preset amp models WAY more than the GT-8's ones but people all over the internet had been saying how much better the GT-8 is in everything.... :?

anyway, the models are what im going for... so i think im gonna get a POD... and probly the Live cause like blackout said its so easy to operate...

how do you find the atomic? whats so good about them when they work with modellers- whats different to a modeller with a normal amp?

The atomic amp is designed so that if, for example, you have a 4x12 cab model it will sound like a 4x12, not whatever amp you are running through.

There is an input jack, a power switch and a couple of output on the back and that's it, the pod is the preamp and the atomic is the power amp, effectively, check out the site it has loads of info...

I got mine from andertons in guildford, there are a couple of other places that have them too, they are about £400 now I think.

excellent thanks...  and do you know how it would compare to running a POD direct through a PA?

I've never used a pod through a pa (although I did once with the gt6 at a mates birthday party thing, I had trouble hearing anything because the speakers were just infront of the stage area, people said it sounded OK, but they weren't guitarists, and they had been drinking quite a lot...)

I would imagine it would be a lot better, you get some serious bass and althoguh it's only 18w it kicks out some noise, If I have it on 1/10 my missus can hear it note for note in the front room, and I'm in the loft room!

I have heard that the are quite directional, so if you played a gig you may need to stick it on a chair/stand/crates to get the best out of it, but it kicks ass. If you have a modeler and want to use it live I would say this is the best option.

Oh yeah, it was designed by Harry Kolbe, the dude knows his stuff, just ask TwilightOdessey  :)

Holy flaming excrement, that's what I was waiting for them to do!  I was holding off seriously getting a Pod largely because I didn't like the fairly arbitrary separation of guitar and bass amp sims into different hardware packages.  Now I totally want an XT that I can upgrade with the bass amps! :)
