What I hate is all these new indie whingers being classed as rock......GET F***ED! When I turn on the big K I want to see 'tallica and Pantera and Vai and Skid Row etc etc ,not F***in' Franz Ferdinand and all that shitee.
To me they are just as bad as the indie shite that was around years ago like Suede and Oasis and Blur, bollocks.
Metal up your arse!!!!!!!

has anyone noticed that there's lots of bands like franz ferdinand, the libertines, the strokes, etc. and they all seem to be doing really well for themselves, although i've never met a single fan for any of these bands... Maybe i just hang out with the right people?

hahah, +1! Scuzz is a lot better than Kerrang now, IMO, but then a lot of the time it goes to the other extreme- too much of the super-heavy stuff- i like melodic metal/hard rock! Awesome avatar, by the way...

the  way i see it, the popular rock bands are popular because they're safe enough for the mainstream pop guys to like them too- hence coldplay, blunt and the like...

I mean, I don't see pantera or any of those type of guys ever getting to be mainstream...

:D Yep again have to agree the whole indy rock band thing has gone way to over the top. To me it just shows how far off the rails the mainstream music industry has got & by definition how much trouble there in. Franz Ferdinand Heavy Metal my F***ing Arse !!

Agree that Dockerty tosser what a F***ing w**ker !

Also agree that there needs to be room for more than just D tuned thrash heads on radio & Mtv type tv shows. There`s some great stuff out there that could do with the exposure.

James Blunt = Still a C*** !!

^yeah, that's what really gets my goat. I can either listen to coldplay type level of heaviness, or else straight into drop-z tuned death or black metal sung in a gutteral sub-bass cookie monster voice!

bar the darkness, who, lets face it, are only accepted because it's not 100% clear that they aren't just taking the piss, there's no real rock music anymore. Rock has been kind of homogenised to fit in with the mainstream, and if it's not heavy enough, it's assumed you want to listen to songs about sacrificing crows to hades...

Not that I have anything against metal, I like metal, but not too heavy metal, lol. And I like hard rock too, and there's no really good hard rock any more (again, bar the darkness).

and don't even get me started on that damn "girlfriend" song by the darkness...

Sell-outs!

My album of the moment is band a band called The Abominable Iron Sloth (http://www.ironsloth.com/index2.html) - I think I've nailed my colours to the mast on this issue    :D

LOL!

The thing is, there's loads of bands out there that you will LOVE, but you'll never hear about them.

Example -  I'm a big fan of prog. Not everyone's taste, I know, but bear with me. Like most people, I thought that prog died in the 70s. For years I listened to Genesis, Floyd, Yes, King Crimson, etc. and thought, "Those were the days."

Prog didn't die in the 70s. There are at least several hundred active prog bands in the world today, and some of them are amazing. Prog didn't die any more than the blues died, any more than jazz died. It just became unfashionable. And frankly, I listen to music because I like it, not because it's fashionable. I don't need some marketting man to point me in the "right" direction.

There must be plenty of people still doing hard rock, old school metal, whatever floats your boat.

Give this a try: Deadwing by Porcupine Tree. £6.99, post free, from Play.com. Great combination of heavy riffing, stellar songwriting and moody soundscapes. Adventurous, interesting music. The perfect antidote to Bluntness!

Plug obscure bands!

Just re-read that and it sounded a bit like a criticism. Wasn't meant that way. I just get very passionate about bands that no-one has ever heard of and that really deserve recognition for their talents.

^ thanks.

yeah, i know there are lots of good bands. it's kind of annoying the way you basically have to order the cd and hope that it's good. I mean, if I liked popular music, I could hear the stuff first on the radio or wherever... but i have to take a chance (as i do with most of the cd's i buy)...

You can often get samples off the web, especially for more obscure bands because they know they're not going to get radio/TV airplay. Not much use unless you have broadband, but if you do ...

EDIT: they seemed pretty cool, actually- i think i'd heard of them before, but never heard any of their music.

Thanks!
