Dave
itunes is pretty cool for samples and NEW stuff. It associates music too, so if you listen to X it will reccommend Y etc. (even if ya don't have an ipod it's usefull).
Dunno exactly what music you are into (know you mentioned hair metal/rock before) but just found a group called Bullets and Octane which are pretty darn cool.
Maybe worth a listen.
I like their new song "Save Me Sorrow" and "Pirates" they only have two albums so are quite new.

Look I agree that so many people with no talent make all the money and so many REAL artists never make a cent... and thats not fair.

Have a look at SRV. When he died in the aircraft  accident he was most definately not a rich man.

Here we are 20 years later looking at him on every magazine cover just about.

Its all about marketing and being marketable for minimum outlay to the record company.

LOL
yep, itunes find :)
Truthfully am NOT an ipod junkie or itunes but the way it "links" music makes it easy to find some cool and not so "main stream" stuff, good for that :)

They are bloody clever at sales too :) If ya do buy a tune they then input your data and make suggestions for similar. This reminds me of alot of older bands/tunes I had forgotten about and therefore depletes my itunes card pretty darn quick lol.

Talking of new bands which is good way to distract our goodselves from the ultimate C***, has anyone listened to that album by The Drive By Truckers (I haven't)? They are supposed to be sort of Skynyrd southern rock thing (which is always good for drinking too)

Christ, I won't have you metal lovers sully the good name of emotional hardcore. Just today I listened to some Drive like jehu, fugazi and some Jimmy Eat World, and I LOVED it.

Call it emo all you want, I love the proper emo stuff, the whole my chemical romance and their whiney ilk can $%&# right off.

Then again, I do love bands like death cab for cutie, jimmy eat world and the like, but I class them as pop bands, since they all write good songs and can sing (unlike 90% of metal bands...).

So cr@p if they write about girls, its a subject most people can relate to, and if I was them I wouldn't care what some greasy metal kids say

^ hahaha, cheers!

to be fair, i was complaining about blunt (and coldplay)...

a lot of the guys who can do the gutteral metal cookie monster voice actually can sing pretty well, in fact better than most of those emo singers (beter than the jimmy eat world guy, anyway)- phil anselmo and the dude from killswitch engage to name but two... which is why i get pissed off that they don't sing more, lol.

Well.. it depends what kind of metal you're on about.. but the vocalists in Dragonforce, Maiden, Iced Earth, Dream Evil, Gamma Ray, Manowar etc can sing soo well, amazing range, especially Kai Hansen (gamma ray) and the guy from Dream Evil.

the gutteral metal cookie monster
voice.

I totally agree that some of these guys can sing really well.

In fact whenever I see live footage of Trivium I get really disappointed that after performing the cookie monster passages his voice is knackered for the sung vocals.

Such a shame as I love the album.

Even Jimi's songs didn't chart all that well outside of the UK.  Purple Haze only reached 65 on the US Billboard charts--and that was one of his highest rankings.

I'm with Badgermark on Jimmy Eat World.  I like their song The Middle, especially.  It has positive lyrics and a catchy riff.

Depressing/talking about girlfriends doesn't always means its emo to me.  If they sing like James Blunt and just $%&#ing cry like a pussy it's emo.  Radiohead can be depressing but they aren't emo.
