strange..
« on: April 27, 2006, 05:25:34 PM »
I was practising soldering on my strats old pots ready for when I redo my electronics in it. Anyway, I uncovered the solder on the back of the pots, and apparently they are both 500k. I thought this was weird on a strat where normally they are 250k? It didnt sound too bright with em either. So now I'm worried the 250k pots I bought will sound cr@p in this guitar.. If it makes any difference, the pots that came with it are mini pots by the looks of things as they are tiny.

Cheers for any help

If it's a US or Mexican Strat, those are not original pots which are full size. The mini pots are used by Far Eastern makers. 250K is the standard for single coils as fitted by Fender for decades, you won't go far wrong using them!
Just 'cos you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you

It must be Far Eastern then   The only thing I know about it is that the brand is "Jim Harley" and it came with a piezo bridge and preamp..

Yes, Jim Harley is Korean I think.  Good luck with the upgrade, the new pots should make a difference.
