Again, back to my (admittedly incredibly minor) sprained ankle. I had to wait in casualty (about 20 miles away, since they closed the one at the hospital in my town, grrr) for about 3 hours- then I got examined for about 30 seconds, lol, after which they told me it wasn't broken (which was nice)!
That's going to happen - they have to prioritise for the major accidents, i.e. car crashes, over a sprained ankle. It can be a bit annoying when you're waiting for hours, but hey, the NHS is great and I don't understand some people's lack of gratitude for it (not you, Dave). People seem very eager to criticise, but I saw a documentary on the American health care system and it scared the shite out of me! Couldn't believe that such a 'rich' country has such a system!
Anyhow, quick tip - for smaller injuries, don't go to A&E; go to the minor injuries clinic. The waiting time is a lot shorter - I went a few months back because I thought I might have shin splints, was being seen to in 20 minutes. In A & E it would have been a lot longer.
Afghan Dave, good luck & get well soon. I agree with Nick, though, it is sometimes more painful but better to know who your true friends are...it is better to be only friends with a handful of people who have 1005 got your back than 50 people who are only self-interested. :)
