HSS Set For Mexican Strat
« on: April 30, 2006, 11:24:17 AM »
Hello all,

Well, I'd just like to start off my posting experience here by stating the following; this community if phenomenal. Everybody is so inviting and seems genuinely compassionate about these pickups. I look forward to becoming a part of it.

Next off, I bought a Mexican Strat a while back. At the time, I really liked the pickups, but now I'm hearing the shortcomings in them. What I'm looking to do is replace them with some Bare Knuckle pickups, at least the bridge pickup.

The tone I'm looking for (and I'm aware of the double tracking and whatnot that goes in in the studio) is that incredibly thick, somewhat raggedy tone found on the last two Chevelle albums. I prefer rather tight bass, but by no means restrained bass. Some other tonal influences would be Helmet (circa Aftertaste), Bush and Tool. Basically, a very thick rhythm tone that I don't have to turn to mush to make thick.

The Stratocaster in question has a maple neck and alder body. I typically play the Strat through a Peavey Triple XXX and/or Peavey Classic 30. When I'm recording it goes through PODxt.  So anyways, I'm just hoping that someone could steer me towards a pickup that would be what I'm looking for.

Thanks a lot.

Yeah welcome from me too- I only have exoerience of the Apache Strat set and they are wonderful but if you want something hotter then have a listen to Steve's Slowhand posts in the players room.

I would say: Warpig/Trilogy/Trilogy, or Warpig/Slowhand/Trilogy.

I was recommended the Holy Diver by someone when I posted. I think the Rebel Yell is pretty sweet for Tool/APC type stuff from the sound clips I've been listening to.
