HH Kiesel Tele
« on: July 25, 2020, 11:07:05 AM »
I have a HH configured tele in order with the Kiesel custom shop. Its gonna be rad: maple neck, alder body, ebony board and all black everything. Hipshot bridge. Ill probably keep it tuned down at least half a step. Someone suggested I try a juggernaut for the bridge but I recently purchased another guitar with that pickup in it and Id like to try something different. Im a 70s-90s Rock kind of guy. Will a VHII be too bright in the bridge or will it be an appropriate level of brightness for a tele? I also was considering the holy diver or the abraxas in the bridge.
Currently: Silo, C-bomb, VHII, Juggernaut, Rebel Yell, Holy Diver, Cold Sweat neck, Mississippi Queen neck, Aftermath neck.
Formerly: Piledriver, Cold Sweat, Mule, all my non-BKPs

I have the VHII in an ash/maple neck/rosewood board Fender HSS. It's uncompressed, with a solid low end, good mids and present topend. It's not shrill, yet present. You have to dig that. I like that you can steer the response with the pick. It's full of temperament.
Ebony adds more percussiveness to the tone than a rosewood board. So, if you are afraid the VHII migt be too bright, you might want to go with a BKP with a little less bite. Like the Holy Diver, mellower Abraxas or beefy Crawler which has enough PAF-pedigree for me.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I like the holy diver better with rosewood boards, but it should work anyway
What are you playing?

Any kind of rock but sometimes I experiment with ambient and stuff like that. I'm not in a band or anything, I only got into really trying to get good at electric starting a few years ago. I use the Line 6 amp sims, my favorites are the 5150, BE100, Dr Z. RT 66, and Engl Fireball.

I really think Holy Diver is probably what you want.

The alnico Black Hawk is also a lovely pickup but I suspect could be too hot for your needs.  The other two that I would suggest looking at are the Juggernaut (which you already have) and the Impulse, which I am really liking in a 25.5" scale six string.

You already have the Juggernaut so maybe experiment with putting that in there and take note of what you do and don't like about it in that guitar and maybe then someone can set you straight regarding which pickup might address those issues while keeping the aspects you like.

Yeah Im thinking the holy diver too, the post was mostly just to make sure nobody was like Nooooo the holy diver is allergic the Kiesel brand! or something.  :cheesy:
Blackhawks, Impulse, and juggernauts have been on my radar as pickups I may potentially like. Ive never played a blade pickup like that. The guitar on its way to me via fed ex is a parts caster made by a luthier and I think the body has a swimming pool style route so I might use that guitar to experiment on.

I saw Tim Mills post stuff on Instagram with a strat (I think it was a Charvel pro mod) with a holy diver bridge and silo neck. Has anyone tried this combo? I LOVE my silo bridge in my Charvel,  I may just go with a HD set though for now since I know I can find a good deal that way.
