Recommendation for a Mayones Hydra?
« on: November 04, 2020, 04:26:42 PM »
I'm going to be treating myself to a pickup change on for my Mayones Hydra BL6 for my birthday, but I'm not sure what to change them to..
Ideally I want all out brutality in the bridge pickup, but nice cleans in the neck. Splitable is preferred.
 I've been thinking of either:
Ceramic Nailbomb + Cold Sweat Neck
Ceramic Nailbomb + VHII Neck
Ceramic Warpig + Cold Sweat Neck
Ceramic Warpig + VH Neck

I'm definitely open to suggestions, I've also been looking at some Fishman Fluence sets, I've been recommended both the KSE set and the Abasi set.

Here's some pictures for attention:

Not sure if a Ceramic Nailbomb is going to be brutal enough in that guitar. I would be looking for another modern pup for that
BKP: Abraxas - Les Paul
Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul
Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22
Emerald - Les Paul
Warpig - Caparison Horus

What would you recommend then?

I have been super impressed with the Impulse set, as long as the guitar has enough inherent bottom-end

The alnico Black Hawk and the Black Hawk neck are also favourites of mine.  The ceramic Black Hawk less so because it has a lot of high end.  If you want that typical ceramic high end though it could be a good choice.  It is one of the most powerful (maybe the most powerful) pickups in the BKP range and the cleans are great.

The Impulse and alnico Black Hawk are very tight despite being alnico pickups.  They have the nicer mid range and top end of alnico as well.

I had the Ceramic Blackhawks in my Duvell for absolutely years actually, I did love them!
